When will my dividend principal be 100% recovered?

SO Dividend is a free web tool that visualizes when dividends alone will repay your original investment. Without complex spreadsheets, track the payback ratio, projected recovery date, and dividend growth simulation of your US and global dividend portfolio in one screen.

All data is stored locally in your browser with AES-256 encryption and is never sent to our servers. Try it without signing up, or optionally enable cloud sync to manage the same portfolio across devices.

Why focus on "Payback Ratio"?

The goal of dividend investing is not simply chasing a high yield — it is to safely recover your original capital through dividends. Once payback is complete, the stock becomes a "Free Share" with no downside to your principal. Even if the price is cut in half, your money is already back in your pocket.

For example: invest $10,000 in a 5% yielder with 8% annual dividend growth, and you fully recover your principal around year 14. Every dividend and price gain after that is pure profit. SO Dividend visualizes that exact "payback complete" moment per stock and across your portfolio.

This is a precise simulator that reflects your real cost basis (average price × quantity), exchange-rate swings, additional buys and sells, and dividend reinvestment — not a naive yield calculation.

By default, all data is stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB) with AES-256 encryption and is never transmitted to our servers. Optional cloud sync stores encrypted snapshots via Supabase.

Yes. You can manage Korean and US dividend stocks in one dashboard. Real-time exchange rates convert your total assets to either currency instantly.
What exactly is "Payback Ratio"?
Payback Ratio = Cumulative Dividends ÷ Total Investment × 100%. When it reaches 100%, your entire principal has been recovered through dividends, and the stock becomes a "Free Share".

No. SO Dividend is an informational and educational calculator. It does not recommend buying or selling specific securities. You are solely responsible for your investment decisions.
What does DGR (Dividend Growth Rate) mean?
