SO Dividend
The ultimate
Dividend Payback Calculator
for dividend investors
What is SO Dividend?
SO Dividend's Payback Calculator is a free web service that helps dividend investors track and visualize how much of their principal investment has been recovered through dividend payments in real-time.
"When will I get my investment back through dividends?"
Stock prices fluctuate daily, but dividends keep flowing into your account steadily. SO Dividend's Payback Calculator shows you what percentage of your principal has been recovered through dividends using an intuitive metric called the Payback Ratio.
For example, if you invested $10,000 and have received $3,000 in dividends so far, your Payback Ratio is 30%. When this number reaches 100%, your original investment has been fully recovered through dividends, and all future dividends are pure profit.
This concept is called "Risk-Free" or "House Money." SO Dividend's Payback Calculator is the essential tool for dividend investors to visually track this journey.

Our Story
SO Dividend's Payback Calculator was born from a simple question SO Dividend (me) had:
"I receive dividends every month, but what percentage of my principal have they paid back so far?"
Even if your stock price drops 20%, if you've received 15% of your principal back in dividends over 3 years, your real loss is only 5%. This perspective helps you stay focused on long-term cash flow rather than getting shaken by short-term price movements.
Existing investment apps only show returns and unrealized gains/losses, but none tracked"how much principal has been recovered through dividends."After managing this in spreadsheets, I decided to build this service in 2025to share with fellow dividend investors.
The "SO" in SO Dividend comes from "So, Cash Flow" — as in "So, I chose cash flow." It embodies an investment philosophy that focuses not on stock price movements, but on the steady stream of dividend income.
